Short answer
A bonding curve is a pricing formula that sets a new token's price automatically from how many tokens have been bought, so the price rises as supply is sold.
Instead of starting with a traditional liquidity pool, many launchpads sell a new token along a curve. The first buyers pay the lowest price, and each purchase moves the price up the curve. Sells move it back down.
Because the curve is deterministic, early buyers can see exactly where the price will go as more people buy. That rewards being early, which is why the first minutes of a launch are so frantic and why bots are everywhere.
A bonding curve doesn't make a token safe or valuable. It's just the launch mechanism. When the curve fills, the token usually graduates to a regular exchange pool.
