Short, honest answers about memecoins, wallets, copy trading and token safety. General information only, never financial, legal or tax advice.
Using DYOR
How the app works, what it costs and who it's for.
- What is DYOR?DYOR is a self-custodial Solana memecoin trading app with a live feed of real on-chain traders, a rug check on every token and auto-copy with your own limits.
- Does DYOR hold my funds? No. DYOR is self-custodial: your wallet's keys are controlled by you, trades settle on-chain from your own address, and we can't move your money.
- How does the DYOR rug check work? Before you buy, DYOR checks a token on-chain: can it be sold, are mint and freeze authority revoked, how much liquidity is locked, how concentrated the holders are and whether the developer has sold.
- How do copy limits work on DYOR?When you copy a trader, you set a maximum amount per trade, a daily budget and optional filters such as skipping tokens that fail the rug check. You can stop copying at any time.
- Who can use DYOR?DYOR is for adults aged 18 and over, in places where using it is legal. Availability may differ by country at launch.
- What is ApedIn, and how is it different from DYOR?ApedIn is DYOR's sister app: the same self-custodial trading, rug checks and copy limits, wrapped in a playful “professional network for degens” where following a trader means copying them.
Rug pulls & token safety
The scams, the warning signs and what a check can and can't tell you.
- What is a rug pull?A rug pull is when a token's creators or insiders take the money and leave buyers holding something worthless, usually by pulling liquidity, blocking sells or dumping supply.
- What is a honeypot token?A honeypot is a token you can buy but can't sell, or can only sell with a huge hidden tax. The chart looks great because nobody is able to exit.
- What is mint authority on Solana, and why should it be revoked?Mint authority is the permission to create new units of a token. If it hasn't been revoked, whoever holds it can print supply and dilute every holder.
- What is freeze authority on Solana?Freeze authority lets its holder freeze any wallet's balance of a token so it can't be moved or sold. For a memecoin, it should be revoked.
- What does “liquidity locked” mean?It means the tokens that represent the trading pool (LP tokens) have been burned or locked, so the creator can't withdraw the pool and leave buyers with nothing to sell into.
- Why does top holder concentration matter? If a handful of wallets hold most of the supply, any one of them can crash the price by selling. The more spread out the holders, the less one exit can hurt you.
Copy trading
How mirroring a trader works, and why your results will differ from theirs.
- What is copy trading?Copy trading means automatically mirroring another trader's buys and sells in your own account, usually with limits you set on size and budget.
- Does copy trading make money?Sometimes, often not. A trader's own profit doesn't tell you what their copiers made, and copiers usually do worse because they buy later and sell later.
- What is median copier P&L?It's the profit or loss of the typical person who copied a trader: line all copiers up from worst to best, and the median is the one in the middle.
- Why do copiers get worse prices than the trader they copy?Because a copy can only start after the original trade is seen on-chain, and by then the trader's own buy, plus other copiers, may already have moved the price.
- What does “dumping on followers” mean? It's when a trader sells into the buying pressure created by the people copying them, so followers buy the top while the trader takes profit.
Memecoin basics
What memecoins are, why Solana, and why most of them fade.
- What is a memecoin?A memecoin is a token whose value comes almost entirely from attention, community and jokes rather than revenue or a product. That makes the price extremely volatile.
- Why are so many memecoins on Solana?Solana is fast and cheap: transactions confirm in about a second and usually cost a fraction of a cent, so creating and trading small tokens is practical.
- What is a token's mint address? The mint address is a token's unique ID on Solana. Names and tickers can be copied by anyone; the mint address can't.
- Why do most memecoins go to zero?Because nothing supports the price once attention moves on. Early holders sell, new buyers dry up, and with no revenue or product there's no floor.
Wallets & self-custody
Keys, seed phrases and keeping your funds yours.
- What is a self-custodial wallet?A self-custodial wallet is one where you, and only you, control the private key that can move the funds. No company can freeze, lend out or spend your coins.
- What is a seed phrase?A seed phrase is a list of 12 or 24 ordinary words that encodes your wallet's private keys. Anyone who has it can take everything in the wallet.
- What's the difference between a custodial and a self-custodial wallet? With a custodial wallet, a company holds the keys and you hold an IOU. With a self-custodial wallet, you hold the keys and the coins sit on-chain in your own address.
- How do I keep my crypto wallet safe?Back up your key offline, never share it, check what every transaction does before you sign it, and keep your trading wallet separate from your savings.
- Can DYOR recover my wallet if I lose access? We can't move your funds or reverse transactions, because DYOR never holds them. Recovery depends on your sign-in method or an exported key backup, so set one up early.
Liquidity, market cap & volume
Reading the numbers on a token page without fooling yourself.
- What is market cap in crypto?Market cap is the token's current price multiplied by its circulating supply. It's a rough size measure, not the amount of money you could actually take out.
- What is liquidity, and why does it matter?Liquidity is how much money sits in a token's trading pool. More liquidity means you can buy or sell larger amounts without moving the price much.
- What does trading volume tell you?Volume is the total value traded over a period, often 24 hours. It shows how active a token is, but it can be inflated by bots trading with themselves.
- What is fully diluted valuation (FDV)?FDV is the price multiplied by the maximum supply that could ever exist. When it's far above market cap, a lot of new supply may still hit the market.
Slippage & fees
Everything that sits between the price you see and the price you get.
- What is slippage?Slippage is the difference between the price you expect and the price you actually get. A slippage setting is the most you're willing to accept before the trade is cancelled.
- What is price impact?Price impact is how much your own trade moves the price in the pool. The bigger your order relative to the liquidity, the bigger the impact.
- How much are Solana network fees? The base fee is 0.000005 SOL per signature, a tiny fraction of a cent. Optional priority fees can be added to get included faster when the network is busy.
- How much does DYOR cost?DYOR charges 0.5% per trade, with no minimum and no subscription. Solana network fees, and any price impact or slippage, are separate.
- What is a sandwich attack?A sandwich attack is when a bot spots your pending trade, buys just before it and sells just after it, profiting from the price move your trade causes.
Bonding curves & launchpads
How new tokens are born and what “graduating” means.
- What is a bonding curve?A bonding curve is a pricing formula that sets a new token's price automatically from how many tokens have been bought, so the price rises as supply is sold.
- What is a token launchpad?A launchpad is a service that lets anyone create and start trading a new token in a few clicks, usually on a bonding curve, without setting up a liquidity pool themselves.
- What happens when a token “graduates” from a launchpad? When a bonding curve fills, the launchpad moves the token's liquidity into a regular decentralized exchange pool, and trading continues there.
Trading psychology
Sizing, exits and not letting a bad trade become a bad week.
- What is FOMO in trading, and how do I avoid it?FOMO, the fear of missing out, is the urge to buy because a price is already rising and everyone seems to be making money. It pushes people to buy late and big.
- How much should I put into a single memecoin?Only an amount you'd be fine losing completely. Many traders cap any single memecoin at a small slice of a trading budget that is itself money they can lose.
- When should I take profit on a memecoin? There's no perfect moment, which is why many traders decide their exit rules before they buy, such as selling part at a set gain and the rest on a trailing drop.
- How do I handle trading losses without making it worse?Accept the loss, step away, and don't try to win it back immediately. Revenge trading, bigger and faster bets after a loss, is one of the quickest ways to lose more.
Taxes (overview, not advice)
The general idea, so you know what to ask a professional.
- Are memecoin trades taxable? In many countries, yes. Selling or swapping a token is often treated as disposing of an asset, with any gain or loss reportable. Rules vary, so check with a tax professional.
- Is swapping one token for another a taxable event? In many jurisdictions it is: swapping token A for token B is often treated as selling A, even if you never touched dollars. Confirm the rules where you live.
- What records should I keep for crypto taxes?Keep the date, token, amount, value at the time, fees paid and transaction ID for every trade and transfer. On-chain history helps, but your own export is easier to work with.
