Short answer
Solana is fast and cheap: transactions confirm in about a second and usually cost a fraction of a cent, so creating and trading small tokens is practical.
On some blockchains, a single swap can cost several dollars in network fees, which kills the idea of buying $10 of a joke token. On Solana the base fee is tiny and blocks are produced roughly every 400 milliseconds, so small, frequent trades make sense.
Creating a token is also cheap and quick, and launchpads made it a few-click process. The result is an enormous number of new tokens every day, which is exciting and dangerous in equal measure.
Low cost cuts both ways: it's just as cheap for scammers to launch a token as it is for you to buy one. That's why a rug check before every buy matters.
