Short answer
The mint address is a token's unique ID on Solana. Names and tickers can be copied by anyone; the mint address can't.
On Solana, every token is defined by a mint account. Its address, a long string of letters and numbers, is the one thing that tells two tokens with the same name apart.
Scammers often launch copycats with the same ticker and logo as a popular token. If you search by name, you can end up buying the fake. Checking the mint address against a source you trust avoids that.
DYOR token pages are keyed by mint address for exactly this reason: every link, chart and rug check points at one specific token, not a name.
