Copy trading

Does copy trading make money?

Short answer

Sometimes, often not. A trader's own profit doesn't tell you what their copiers made, and copiers usually do worse because they buy later and sell later.

The trader you copy might be up a lot. That doesn't mean people copying them are. If thousands of copiers buy right after the trader, they push the price up for each other, and the trader can sell into that demand.

That's why DYOR ranks traders by median copier P&L: what the typical copier actually made, not the trader's best screenshot. When that number is negative, copying has been a losing strategy, however good the trader's own chart looks.

Even a positive history is no guarantee. Past results don't predict future ones, markets change, and traders have losing streaks. Treat copying as a way to follow someone's ideas with limits, not as a source of passive income.
