A memecoin routine that survives bad days

· 5 min read · DYOR team

There is no system that makes memecoin trading safe. Tokens rug, charts reverse, and the best-looking setup of your week can be worth nothing by lunch. What a routine can do is keep your losses boring: small, expected, and never big enough to push you into worse decisions. Here's the one we'd give a friend.

1. Set the budget before you open the app

Decide two numbers while you're calm: the most you'll put into any single token, and the most you're prepared to lose today. Write them down. Once a chart is moving, every number feels too small. That's exactly why you choose them first.

2. Read the check, every time

Before every buy, look at the rug check. Can it be sold? Are mint and freeze authority revoked? How much liquidity is locked, and how much of the supply sits in ten wallets? If anything says fail, skip it. If something says not checked, treat it as a caution rather than a pass. It takes ten seconds and it removes the most obvious traps. See how the rug check works.

3. Compare your size to the pool

A $200 buy in a pool holding $5,000 is going to move the price against you on the way in and again on the way out. If your order is a noticeable slice of the liquidity, make it smaller or pick a different token. Keep slippage tight enough that a bad fill fails instead of quietly costing you.

4. Decide the exit when you enter

Pick a rule before you buy. For example: sell half if it doubles, and sell the rest if it falls a set percentage from its high. The specific rule matters less than having one, because the moment you most need it is the moment you're least able to think clearly.

5. Copy with caps, not hope

If you copy traders, give each one a per-trade cap and a daily budget, and filter out tokens that fail the rug check. Look at what their copiers actually made, not what they made. A trader's bad day should cost you a small, known amount.

6. Stop when you hit the daily limit

When you reach today's loss limit, close the app. The urge to win it back straight away is the single most expensive feeling in trading. Tomorrow's market will still be there.

7. Review once a week

Every trade on DYOR links to its transaction, so your history is a complete, honest record. Once a week, look at it and ask one question per trade: did I follow my rules? A losing trade that followed the rules is fine. A winning trade that broke them is a warning.

None of this guarantees anything. Memecoins are high risk and can go to zero, and past results don't predict future ones. For more, read how to size a position and how to handle losses.
